🦄 About the Designer ✨

Uncompromising in research. Relentless in craft.

Howdy! My name is Kiley Coatney, and I am an eLearning experience designer with a sturdy background in graphic design, technical writing, and illustration with government, corporate, and startup experience. I know how to make your business sparkle!

I am a visual powerhouse with a knack for clever copy. I have experience working with cutting-edge product developers, engineers, and agile designers to build concepts into multi-faceted brands with user-friendly design, but I am also always open for freelance.

My area of excellence lies mainly in learning experience design, branding, and technical writing/copy layout, but I also shine in UX/UI and package design. I have achieved 13 state and national design awards while pursuing my undergraduate degree. The best work is done over a good mocktail, and I think a little nonsense every now and again keeps design bright!

  • As a Learning Experience Designer with an active TS/SCI Department of Energy & Department of Defense clearance, I bring a strong background in developing high‑impact training for government, cybersecurity, and energy sectors.

My work with organizations such as Nozomi Networks, Team B Strategy+, United States Space and Missile Defense Command (via Rivet),Southern California Edison (via Aptara), and TetraTech has equipped me with deep expertise in translating complex technical content into accessible, engaging learning solutions.

I’ve led the design of eLearning, instructor‑led training, and multimedia assets using UX‑informed, research‑backed methodologies. My experience collaborating with SMEs, engineers, and cross‑functional teams allows me to build learning ecosystems that drive performance, compliance, and operational readiness.

I also specialize in WCAG accessibility, visual design, and iterative process improvement, ensuring every deliverable is both intuitive and inclusive. Ultimately, I create learning experiences that help organizations achieve clarity, confidence, and measurable impact.

  • Throughout my design career, I’ve consistently applied UX and UI best practices to create intuitive, learner‑centered experiences across government, cybersecurity, and energy‑sector projects.

Drawing on tools such as Figma, Adobe XD, and the Adobe Creative Suite, I design clear layout flows, visual hierarchies, and dashboard‑style navigation that guide learners effortlessly through complex technical content.

I integrate WCAG accessibility standards into every stage of development, ensuring that interactions, contrast, typography, and navigation patterns are inclusive and compliant. Using Articulate Storyline and Rise, I translate wireframes and prototypes into functional digital learning products that balance visual appeal with usability.

This combination of UX strategy and UI craftsmanship strengthens engagement, reduces cognitive load, and creates training that feels polished, purposeful, and easy to use for diverse audiences.

  • As a senior designer, I build end‑to‑end brand systems—logos, typography, iconography, and style guides—and manage production across web, social, and print to deliver clear, cohesive visual stories. I’m fluent across the Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign, Photoshop, After Effects), enabling fast iteration from concept to polished assets while maintaining accessibility and brand integrity.

For startups, I’ve crafted investor‑ready pitch decks and product visuals that helped secure six‑figure funding and drove press for Black‑owned and women‑owned ventures. I have led the creation of powerful pitch decks for consulting clients that secured seven‑figure contracts with private investors, equity firms, and the United States Government.

My work has earned tens of industry awards (including American Advertising Awards), underscoring a track record of creative excellence that translates directly into successful business outcomes.
